A decade. A bloody decade!

Ten years ago today I started work at a company I'd never heard of. In a city I'd never been to. Thanks to the double whammy of Capgemini making me redundant at the same time as Northern Rock going belly up and flooding the software jobs market. It was a three month contract off the back of a phone interview.
"It's only 120 miles away. Let's give it a go and see what happens."
It was either that, or get a job in a call centre.

Well. Things seem to have gone alright. I'm still in Sheffield, for a start!

I've switched jobs a couple of times, but I still work with a bunch of the same people. And keep in touch with a lot of the others too. I've made a lot of new friends and learned a lot from them. You're all awesome, by the way. ✊

I've moved house a couple of times too. But I'm still as far from work as I am from the Peak District, and can be in one or the other in about 20 mins on a bike. Although I'm a little further away from a good pub these days...

After a year I convinced Carolyn 👱‍♀️and Cleo 😸to join me. I'd say we're pretty settled. Sadly Cleo is no longer with us. We've bought a house and produced a tiny human. We're just hoping she doesn't absorb too much of the local accent!

I'm not sure how things would have panned out if we'd stayed up north. Probably very differently.

I'm really looking forward to the next 10 years. Who knows what they might bring...
